About This Role

Our client, a prominent FPSO operator with an established presence in the Asia-Pacific region, is seeking a seasoned Engineering Manager to lead their engineering team based in Kuala Lumpur. This senior leadership position is critical to the success of FPSO conversion and topside integration projects, requiring an individual who can effectively coordinate multi-discipline engineering activities while ensuring compliance with industry standards and project specifications.

As Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all engineering aspects from concept through detailed design and into commissioning support. You will serve as the primary point of contact for engineering-related matters with client representatives, regulatory bodies, and third-party reviewers. Your role will involve managing a team of discipline leads and engineers across mechanical, process, structural, electrical, and instrumentation specializations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate multi-discipline engineering teams throughout FPSO conversion and topside integration projects
  • Develop and maintain engineering standards, procedures, and quality assurance processes
  • Ensure engineering deliverables meet project specifications, client requirements, and regulatory compliance
  • Manage engineering budgets, schedules, and resource allocation across multiple project phases
  • Interface with client engineering teams, licensors, and third-party verification agencies
  • Conduct technical reviews and approval of engineering documents, calculations, and drawings
  • Identify and mitigate engineering risks, escalating issues as appropriate to senior leadership
  • Foster a culture of safety-first engineering and continuous improvement within the team

Core Requirements

  • Minimum 12 years of engineering experience in offshore oil and gas, with at least 5 years in a managerial role
  • Direct experience with FPSO or FLNG topside engineering design and integration
  • Proven track record of multi-discipline coordination across mechanical, process, structural, electrical, and instrumentation
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing teams of 20+ engineers and professionals
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, or Electrical preferred)
  • Registration with a recognized professional engineering body (PE, PEng, or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with FPSO classification requirements and major class society rules
  • Excellent communication skills for both technical and non-technical stakeholder management

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as Engineering Manager or Lead on FPSO newbuild or conversion projects
  • Experience with Maersk, MODEC, SBM, or Yinson FPSO operations and standards
  • Knowledge of HAZID, HAZOP, SIL assessment, and safety engineering principles
  • Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Engineering or MBA for leadership development
  • Experience working with PETRONAS Carigali or other national oil companies as client
